IGP Disu Assures Tight Security Ahead of Ekiti Guber Poll
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has assured residents and political stakeholders in Ekiti State of adequate security and professional conduct by security agencies ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Disu gave the assurance on Thursday during the Election Stakeholders’ Meeting and Signing of the Peace Accord held in Ado-Ekiti, where he reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring a peaceful, secure, free, and credible electoral process.
The meeting brought together major electoral and political stakeholders, including representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission, members of the National Peace Committee led by former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, political parties, candidates, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, religious leaders, security agencies, as well as members of the diplomatic and observer community.
The IGP commended INEC and the National Peace Committee for sustaining efforts aimed at promoting peaceful democratic participation and strengthening public confidence in the electoral process.

He particularly praised Abdulsalami Abubakar for his continued contributions to peacebuilding, national unity, and democratic stability in the country.
Disu further stated that the Nigeria Police Force, working in collaboration with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), had concluded comprehensive deployment and operational plans for the election.
According to him, security arrangements have been finalised across the 16 local government areas, 154 wards, and more than 2,400 polling units in Ekiti State, with personnel and operational assets strategically positioned to ensure the safety of voters, electoral officials, observers, and other participants.
The police chief reiterated that officers and personnel deployed for the election would remain professional, neutral, and impartial throughout the exercise.
He also urged political actors and their supporters to abide by the Peace Accord and conduct their campaigns and activities peacefully.
The IGP encouraged eligible voters in Ekiti State to come out freely and exercise their constitutional rights without fear, assuring residents of adequate security before, during, and after the election.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding democratic values, maintaining public order, and supporting peaceful elections across the country.
