The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has assured that those responsible for the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar will be brought to justice, as a high-powered military delegation paid condolence visits to his family and the Katsina State Government.
The delegation, led by the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General IM Abdullahi, visited Katsina on Sunday to convey the condolences of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General OO Oluyede, and the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) following the tragic demise of the retired senior officer.
Speaking during a visit to the late General’s family residence in Katsina, Major General Abdullahi described Major General Abubakar as a dedicated and patriotic officer whose contributions to national security and the development of the Nigerian Army would remain enduring.
He said the deceased served the nation with distinction in various capacities throughout a military career spanning more than three decades, adding that his legacy would continue to inspire officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces.
“Major General Abubakar served the Nigerian Army and the nation meritoriously for over three decades. His years of dedicated service and sacrifice will not be forgotten, and his legacy will continue to inspire officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” Abdullahi stated.
The Army chief further reassured the bereaved family that the Armed Forces and relevant security agencies would spare no effort in ensuring that those behind the General’s death are apprehended and prosecuted.
As a mark of honour and recognition for the late officer’s service to the nation, the delegation presented a National Flag to the family.
Responding on behalf of the family, Alhaji Dikko Mu’azu Ruma, the Gado da Masun Katsina, expressed gratitude to the Chief of Defence Staff and the Armed Forces of Nigeria for standing by the family during the period of mourning.

“On behalf of the entire family, the good people of Batsari Local Government Area and indeed Katsina State, we sincerely thank the Chief of Defence Staff and the Armed Forces of Nigeria for standing by us, especially during this trying period,” he said.
He described death as an inevitable reality and prayed for the peaceful repose of the late General’s soul.
Earlier, the DHQ delegation visited the Katsina State Government House, where they were received by the Deputy Governor, Mallam Faruk Lawal Jobe, on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
During the meeting, Major General Abdullahi conveyed the condolences of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Armed Forces to the government and people of Katsina State over the loss of one of the state’s distinguished sons.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor described the death of Major General Abubakar as a painful loss to both Katsina State and the nation, noting that his commitment to national service would remain a source of inspiration to future generations.
Jobe called for greater collaboration among stakeholders in addressing the country’s security challenges and ending the activities of terrorists and other criminal elements operating in Katsina State and across Nigeria.
He also assured the military of the Katsina State Government’s continued support for ongoing security operations aimed at restoring peace and stability in the North-West region.
Major General Abdullahi, in turn, commended the state government for its support to the military in the fight against terrorism and other security threats, stressing that sustained cooperation between both sides remained vital to achieving lasting peace and security.
Special prayers were offered at both the family residence and the Government House for the peaceful repose of the soul of the late Major General Abubakar.
Among those who accompanied the delegation were the Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General WB Idris; General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Major General BP Koughna; Rear Admiral AM Haruna; Air Vice Marshal AY Abdullahi; Major General JS Bindawa (rtd); Brigadier General SK Usman (rtd); and Air Vice Marshal IS Kaita (rtd).
Family members, traditional rulers and prominent sons of Katsina State were also present during the condolence visits.
