FRSC Nabs Suspected ‘One Chance’ Robber, Recovers Stolen Phone in Ibadan
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has arrested suspected members of a phone-theft and “one chance” syndicate and recovered a stolen mobile phone during a routine patrol operation in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The suspects were apprehended in the early hours of Monday along the Eleyele–Ojoo corridor following a swift intervention by an FRSC patrol team conducting routine operations on the Babalegba–Eleyele–Ojoo route.
According to the Corps, patrol operatives became suspicious after observing a motorcycle rider in pursuit of a Nissan Micra with registration number AJW 903XE. Moments later, a female passenger raised an alarm, alleging that her mobile phone had been stolen while inside the vehicle.
The patrol team immediately intercepted the vehicle and commenced preliminary questioning of its occupants. During the interrogation, the driver, identified as Idowu Mukaila, reportedly claimed he could facilitate the recovery of the stolen phone.

Shortly afterwards, another individual arrived at the scene and produced the missing device, a development that heightened suspicions of a coordinated criminal operation.
The incident was promptly reported to the appropriate authorities, and the suspects were taken into custody for further investigation.
Officials of the Park Management System (PMS) and the Oyo State Drivers’ Union later informed FRSC officials that both the driver and the vehicle had allegedly been under surveillance following multiple complaints linking them to phone theft and “one chance” activities within Ibadan metropolis.
Following further interrogation by the Sector Commander and Deputy Corps Commander (Operations), the case was transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, Eleyele Division, for comprehensive investigation and possible prosecution.
The FRSC said the operation highlights the critical role of its patrol teams in promoting road safety and supporting broader security efforts through vigilance, rapid response and collaboration with other law enforcement agencies.
The Corps also urged members of the public to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities, and continue to support efforts aimed at enhancing safety and security on Nigerian roads.
