NCoS Graduates 61 Inmates in Holy Qur’an Memorisation Program at Kano Custodial Centre
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has recorded another milestone in its inmate rehabilitation programme with the successful graduation of 61 inmates who completed the memorisation and recitation of the Holy Qur’an at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kurmawa, Kano.
The initiative, the Command said, reflects its commitment to the reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019.
The graduating class comprised 55 male and six female inmates who successfully completed the intensive faith-based programme after demonstrating dedication and perseverance throughout the period of study.
According to the Command, many of the graduates had little or no prior knowledge of complete Qur’anic recitation before being admitted into the custodial facility. Through structured religious instruction and consistent commitment, they attained full memorisation of the Holy Qur’an, highlighting the impact of faith-based rehabilitation in transforming inmates’ lives.
To celebrate the achievement, the Nigerian Correctional Service, in collaboration with the Chukali Humanitarian Foundation, presented the graduates with welfare packages, including new clothing, mattresses, blankets and financial support to facilitate their rehabilitation and eventual reintegration into society.
Speaking at the event, the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ahmed Yusuf Lakpene, commended the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, for his leadership and sustained support for educational, vocational and moral development programmes across custodial centres nationwide.
