Iran’s Supreme Leader Appoints New Military Chief, IRGC Commander
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has appointed Major General Ali Abdollahi as the country’s new Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces and Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi as Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The appointments, announced on Monday through Khamenei’s official website, mark his first major military appointments since he assumed Iran’s supreme leadership following the death of his father amid the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Abdollahi previously headed the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Iran’s inter-service military command responsible for coordinating operations across the country’s armed forces.

The announcement stated that Abdollahi had been appointed Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, while Vahidi was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and promoted to the rank of major general.
The appointments come as Iran remains embroiled in heightened regional tensions and military confrontation following the death of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Abdollahi has previously issued strong warnings against countries perceived to be supporting the United States and its military operations in the region.
Earlier this month, he warned neighbouring countries against serving as what he described as a “defensive shield” for the United States, cautioning that they could become involved in the consequences of the conflict.
The latest appointments are expected to shape Iran’s military command structure as the country continues to respond to escalating regional security pressures.
