FRSC, Indian Varsity Train 1,000 Security Personnel on Stress Management, Emotional Resilience
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has strengthened its partnership with India’s Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) through a 10-day international training programme aimed at improving stress management and emotional well-being among Nigerian law enforcement personnel.
The programme, which commenced on Monday at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja, is expected to benefit 1,000 personnel drawn from the FRSC, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Fire Service and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The training will be held in Abuja and at the FRSC Academy in Udi, Enugu State, with participants receiving practical skills in managing occupational stress, emotional regulation, psychological resilience, self-management and peer support.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the initiative as a strategic investment in the human capital required for effective law enforcement and public safety.
He said officers routinely face road crashes, emergencies, disasters, security challenges and other traumatic situations, making mental and emotional resilience essential to sustained professional performance.

“While we have traditionally focused on developing technical and operational competencies, experience has shown that sustainable effectiveness also depends on the mental and emotional well-being of those entrusted with safeguarding our roads and protecting lives and property,” he said.
The Defence Adviser to the Indian High Commission, Col. Manoj Singh, who represented the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, said psychological resilience had become a strategic requirement for modern law enforcement institutions.
He noted that the training demonstrated how the longstanding Nigeria-India relationship could translate into practical institutional development and capacity building.
The Dean, School of Behavioural Sciences and Forensic Investigation at RRU, Dr. Jasbirkaur Thadhani, who represented the university’s Vice Chancellor, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to expanding its partnership with the FRSC, particularly in capacity development and institutional strengthening.
The programme brings personnel from multiple security and emergency-response agencies onto a common capacity-building platform, with the FRSC describing inter-agency cooperation and shared professional standards as critical to improving public safety.
The Indian delegation includes Thadhani; RRU Puducherry Campus Director and Assistant Professor of Criminology, Arsh G.; Head of Sports Training–Strength and Conditioning, Kalpesh Sharma; and Head and Section Officer, Atal Incubation Centre, Chandrakant Yadav.
The FRSC said the training is expected to contribute to the development of a more resilient, emotionally intelligent and professionally prepared law enforcement workforce capable of responding effectively to the demands of modern public safety.
