
Sokoto: 8 Division GOC Meets Communities, Assures Kebbe Residents of Protection Against Lakurawa
The General Officer Commanding, 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Bemgha Paul Koughna, has conducted an operational assessment visit to Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State following renewed security threats linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group.
The visit, which included an inspection of the Forward Operating Base in Kebbe and surrounding communities, was aimed at assessing the security situation and strengthening measures to prevent further terrorist infiltration of vulnerable border communities between Sokoto and Kebbi states.
The Army said the assessment followed recent reports of a renewed attack on Ungushi community in Kebbe LGA.
During the visit, Koughna engaged community leaders and residents to obtain firsthand information on the security situation and hear their concerns.

The GOC reassured residents that troops remained deployed in the area and were maintaining a high level of alertness to protect lives and property.
He stressed that the Army remained determined to respond swiftly and decisively to emerging threats and deny terrorist elements the opportunity to establish safe havens in the area.
Koughna urged residents to remain calm and continue with their legitimate daily activities, assuring them that security forces were firmly on the ground.
He also appealed to community members to strengthen their cooperation with troops by promptly providing credible and actionable intelligence on suspicious movements and activities within their communities.
According to him, effective collaboration between security forces and local communities remains critical to detecting, disrupting and dismantling terrorist networks before they can launch attacks.
The GOC’s visit is part of ongoing efforts by the 8 Division to review and adjust its security architecture in response to emerging threats in the Sokoto-Kebbi border axis.
