Qorebox Strengthens Board, Appoints PenCom Pioneer MK Ahmad as Chairman
Qorebox Solutions Limited has announced the reconstitution of its Board of Directors with the appointment of former Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Muhammad Kabir Ahmad (OON), as Chairman, alongside renowned technology executive Gerald Ilukwe as a non-executive director.
The company said the appointments are part of efforts to strengthen its corporate governance framework and position the technology firm for its next phase of strategic growth.
In a statement announcing the changes, Qorebox said the reconstituted board combines expertise in financial services, pensions administration, public policy, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity and corporate governance to support the company’s expanding operations.
Kabir Ahmad, widely known as MK Ahmad, brings more than four decades of leadership experience across Nigeria’s public and private sectors.
He is best known as the pioneer Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), where he led the establishment and growth of Nigeria’s contributory pension industry.
Beyond PenCom, Ahmad has held several high-profile leadership positions, including Chairman of Polaris Bank and Credent Capital Advisory, President and Chairman of the Council of the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria, and Independent Non-Executive Director of MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc and the Infrastructure Company of Nigeria (InfraCorp).
A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a postgraduate diploma in Innovation and Strategy from the University of Oxford, Ahmad has also attended executive programmes at Harvard Business School, INSEAD and IMD. He was conferred with the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) for his contributions to national development.
Joining the board is Gerald Ilukwe, regarded as one of the pioneers of Nigeria’s information and communications technology (ICT) industry.

Ilukwe was the first General Manager of Microsoft Nigeria, where he played a key role in establishing the company’s operations in Nigeria and expanding its presence across English-speaking West Africa.
He later became the pioneer Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, the Federal Government’s ICT infrastructure company, where he led the development of the foundational digital infrastructure supporting government-wide connectivity and e-government services.
His career has also included senior engagements with global technology firms such as SAP and IBM, and he is widely recognised as a technology strategist and corporate governance expert.
The company retained three existing directors on its board.
They include Ahmad Rabiu Shuaibu, Chief Executive Officer of Qorebox Solutions Limited, a technology executive and digital transformation specialist with more than 14 years’ experience in financial technology, digital payments, banking systems and pensions administration, including over 11 years at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in senior technology and programme management roles.
Also continuing on the board is Rakiya Shuaibu Mohammed, a leading technology professional with more than two decades of experience across banking, telecommunications, government and financial technology. She previously played a significant role in the technology initiatives that supported the development of Nigeria’s Central Bank Digital Currency (eNaira) and currently serves as Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Digibit Solutions.
The third continuing director is Chibuzor Okoye, an experienced cybersecurity and network infrastructure expert with over 20 years of experience across telecommunications, public-sector technology and enterprise security. He currently serves as Senior Security Engineer at Workday, where he supports global enterprise security operations.
According to the company, the strengthened board reflects its commitment to maintaining high standards of corporate governance while accelerating innovation and expanding its footprint in Nigeria’s digital transformation ecosystem.
Qorebox said the blend of expertise in public policy, financial services, technology, cybersecurity and institutional governance would position the company to deliver stronger strategic leadership as it pursues its long-term growth agenda.
