Internet Fraudsters: Court Jails Angel Quadri, Sheriff

‘Angel’ Jailed For Internet Fraud
Justice P.I. Ajoku of the Federal High Court, Ibadan Judicial Division, has convicted an internet fraudster, Adebimpe Babajide Quadri, a.k.a Angel and sentenced him to four months in prison.

Quadri, who hide under the name ‘Angel’ to dupe his victims online, was, on Wednesday, May 8, found guilty of criminal impersonation in a one-count amended charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office.

The offence, according to the charge sheet, was contrary to section 22 (4)(b) and punishable under Section 22(4) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention e.t.c) Act, 2015.

The convict was originally arraigned on April 15, 2019 on a four-count charge bordering on possession of documents containing false pretence, contrary to Section 6 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related (offences) Act, 2006 and obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related (Offences) Act, 2006.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

He was, however, re-arraigned on May 8, 2019 on a lone-count charge after entering into a plea bargain agreement with the Commission. He pleaded guilty to the amended charge.

In view of his plea, prosecuting counsel, Oluwatoyin Owodunni, urged the court to convict him accordingly.

The presiding judge then convicted and jailed him for four months. The four-month term, the judge ordered, will run from the date of his arrest – February 13, 2019.

According to the judge, Quadri will also forfeit a sum of $400 USD (Four Hundred United States of American Dollars), one Samsung phone and one black Tecno k7 phone to the Federal Government.

Two Internet Fraudsters ‘Sheriffs’ Bag 16 months Jail Term

Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, convicted and sentenced two Internet fraudsters, Akinleye Sheriff, a.k.a. Tracy Gifford, and Ganiyu Sheriff Abiodun, a.k.a Sandra Avri, to one year and four months imprisonment respectively for possession of fraudulent documents, an offence contrary to Section 320 (1) (c) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State No. 11 of 2015.

The convicts, who were arrested by officials of the EFCC during a raid at the Ologolo-Igbo Efon area of Lagos State on March 13, 2019, were arraigned today on a one-count charge bordering on possession of fraudulent documents.

Count one of the charge reads: “That you, Akinleye Sheriff (a.k.a Tracy Gifford) and Ganiyu Sherif Abiodun (a.k.a Sandra Avril), on or about the 13th day of March 2019, at Lagos within the Ikeja Judicial Division, have in your possession a document wherein you falsely represented yourselves as Tracy Gifford and Sandra Avril respectively when you knew or ought to know, having regard to the circumstances of the case that the documents contain false pretence.”

The defendants pleaded guilty to the one count charge preferred against them.

The prosecution counsel, Bilikisu Buhari Bala, informed the court of a plea bargain entered into by the defendants with the Commission and also prayed that they be convicted accordingly.

Delivering her judgment, Justice Dada convicted and sentenced the defendants to one year and four months imprisonment with an option of N250, 000 fine.

The Judge further ordered the forfeiture of a Lexus SUV 15250, HP Beat Studio laptop, two I-phone Xs Gold, one black Nokia Torch, one Acer laptop and one Apple Mac Book Air recovered from the defendants to the Federal Government.
