Nigerian Army Commissions Worship Centre in Barracks

In line with his desire to uplift the spiritual and moral character of Nigerian Army personnel, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai has commissioned newly remodeled All Saints Military Protestant Church in Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos Plateau State on Wednesday the 19th of June 2019.

The COAS was represented by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division Maj Gen Nuhu Angbazo. In his remarks, he posited that under his leadership, the Nigerian Army is fully aware and concerned with the importance of spiritual aspects of troops and their families which is been accorded the desired priority, because it is key to achieving his vision of “having a Professionally Responsive Nigerian Army in the Discharge of Its Constitutional Roles”.

Consequently, deliberate efforts have been taken to ensure maximum attention is given to places of worship in all Nigerian Army Barracks across the nation, especially in this period when the nation is facing numerous security challenges, and the Nigerian Army being at the forefront in combating them, requires that more attention be focused on the spiritual formation and well-being of our troops in or out of conflict arenas.

He, therefore, enjoined religious leaders particularly those in the Barracks to ensure that spiritual needs of personnel and their families are taken care of.This will complement the Army authority’s efforts in making places of worship conducive and forming positive morals for personnel and their families.

He expressed appreciation to Members of the Church Project and Maintenance Committee, especially the Chairperson Mrs Jessica Nimyel for their efforts at ensuring the project was completed on time and that quality work was done in line with the Nigerian Army standard.

In his welcome address, the Deputy Director Chaplain Services, All Saints Church Major (Rev) Adamu Mohammed, thanked the COAS for his financial support to the Protestant and Catholic Churches as well as the Central Mosque in Maxwell Khobe Cantonment.

“The financial intervention of the COAS really accelerated the completion of the church project which started in March 2019” – he further stated.

Similarly, the COAS has also commissioned newly renovated and well equipped Accident and Emergency Department at 3 Division Medical Services and Hospital.

The department would assist in timely treatment of emergency cases, especially given the fact that the Division recently concluded training on how to manage emergencies for Nurses and Midwives.
