A Team Of International Nuclear Atomic Energy Visit To Federal Fire Service

The building of nuclear electricity plant in the country will definitely improve the public energy supply and bring about real development in other sectors of the economy. However, indices to leverage the strategic importance of this project in order to ensure the safety of lives and property should as well be considered.

The Controller General Federal Fire Service, Anebi Joseph Garba said this over the week when he received in his office a team from the international Nuclear Atomic Energy headed by Mr Pablo Jerez on tour of response agencies in the country to ascertain their preparedness, capabilities and capacity during emergencies.

Anebi stated that the Federal Fire Service personnel are readily available to attend to any emergency call but needed additional training and other logistics to enhance its performance. He enlisted areas of attention along impact assessment template to include: equipment procurement, training, kitting of response agencies especially the fire Personnel whose duty it is to respond to all emergencies stressing that the Federal Fire Service personnel have the professional skills to deliver efficient and effective service given the necessary tools to work as training and expansion of state /local fire service is as well important.

In the light of the above, the CG, solicited the assistance of the Atomic Energy team in capacity building and other capabilities in order to enhance response agencies preparedness towards the task ahead.

Earlier, Mr Pablo Jerez had stated that their mission in the country is to ascertain what is on ground and how prepared the response agencies are and among the agencies so far visited are, the Civil Defence and Federal Fire Service stressing that they were impressed by the decontamination exercise duly carried out at the glare of the Atomic Energy team and promised putting together an articulate report that will enhance response agencies capabilities and capacity.
