Nigeria, U.S to Partner on Effective Policing

The Honorable Minister of Police Affairs Mohammad Maigari Dingyadi has said that Mr. President’s number one agenda in this Next Level dispensation is to guarantee the security of lives and properties of the citizens of this great nation, Nigeria which has led to the re-establishment of the Ministry of Police Affairs. While addressing  the U.S Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E Beth Leonard who paid a courtesy call to the Ministry on Tuesday, 10th March 2020, Dingyadi noted that great cordial relationship is in existence between the U S and Nigeria especially in the area of policing.

Explaining  the various  steps the Ministry is taking in making sure there is better policing, he said that the Police Trust Fund will aid in training of the men of the Police force maximally and ensuring their welfare, while the introduction of community policing ongoing is to strengthen the force and engage trusted locals within the areas  recommended by the people to curb banditry and other vices. The Minister said that adequate infrastructure are being put in place as more logistics and support is needed by the police which the US is capable to assist.

 Speaking earlier, the Ambassador of the U.S to Nigeria, H.E Beth Leonard said it has become pertinent that the US understands Nigeria’s priorities, challenges and issues because U.S and Nigeria have come a long way in policing. She expressed delight at measures being taken by the ministry to ensure security of lives and properties

 Dr. Maurice Nnamdi  Mbaeri, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs in his closing remark highlighted the need for U S to co-operate with Nigeria in the area of insecurity, curbing corruption and growing the economy in order to reduce the unemployment rate which is the canker worm that has aggravated the insecurity faced today. While thanking the envoy on finding time to embark on such important visit, Mbaeri seized the opportunity to implore the US to assist in combatting Corona virus, noting that two cases have been identified in Nigeria. “U.S is far more advanced than Nigeria and it is hoped that they assist in combating this global health threat called Corona virus”.
