APRA Tanzania 2022: Badejo-Okusanya Bags Global Icon Award

Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, President of the African Public Relations Association (APRA), has been honoured with a Global Icon Award at the 33rd Annual Conference of the African Public Relations in Dar El Salam, Tanzania.

While conferring the award, Justin Green, President/CEO Global Alliance said it was in recognition of Mr Badejo-Okunsaya’s role in fighting for the recognition of Public Relations in Africa.

PRNigeria reports that delegates in the communications industry convered in Tanzania to discuss how Public Relations as a profession can be effectively utilised as a tool to reshape the continent’s narrative in order to meet global competitiveness and glory.

The conference which features Africa’s biggest and best includes practitioners across public relations, corporate communicators, crisis management, reputation management and scholars.

Earlier, Nitin Mantri, President of the International Communications Consultancy Organisation (ICCO) said communicators need to be authentic and innovative while deploying technology effectively.

“The future of PR means PR practitioners need to be digitally savvy, understand digital analytics and how it integrates at all communication levels,” he said.

The APRA 2022 conference is themed; Africa’s Resilience and Global Competitivenes with a line-up of accomplished speakers across the world.

Areas discussed include; Future Career: The Option of Public Relations, Africa Trends and Culture, Resilience and Reputation in a turbulent environment. Are you crisis-ready, The PR Professional 2.0: The Capacity and Skill Set for the Modern PR Professional and Building a Resilient Future with Authenticity and Purpose.

Others are; Building a Resilient Public Relations Industry, Competition or Contribution, Maintaining Resilience in Communications Through the Global Pandemic: An African Perspective among others.

The conference’s climax will be the SABRE Awards Africa which will be held at an event to commemorate the Africa Day tonight.

Africa Day celebrates the founding of the first union of African countries in 1963.

“As we celebrate this special day, we reflect on the key achievements of Africa and recognise the importance for all of us to promote a free and prosperous Africa,” APRA said in a tweet.
