President of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Prof. Asha S. Kanwar, will on Wednesday deliver the first public lecture of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
The lecture, with the theme “Can ODL reach the unreached? Lessons from the Commonwealth”, will be delivered at the auditorium of the National Universities Commission Auditorium, Abuja.
The lecturer is also the Chief Executive Officer of the COL, an intergovernmental organisation created by Commonwealth Heads of Government to promote the development and sharing of open learning and distance education knowledge, resources and technologies.
Based in Canada, the COL is the world’s only intergovernmental organisation solely concerned with the promotion and development of distance education and open learning. It helps developing nations improve access to quality education and training.
Prof. Kanwar became the head of the institution on June 1, 2012 and has served it for 12 years.
Before joining COL, she was a consultant in open and distance learning at UNESCO’s Regional Office for Education in Africa (BREDA) in Dakar, Senegal. She has over 30 years of experience in teaching, research and administration.
Wednesday’s event in Abuja, dubbed “NOUN Distinguished Lecture Series”, is expected to draw attendance from the general public, especially the academia.
