Chief Judge Frees 29 Inmates in Bauchi
The Bauchi State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi T.Umar has released a total of 29 inmates during her 2018 third quarter visit to prisons across the State.
The visit which took the State Chief Judge and members of the Administration of Criminal justice committee to Misau, Zaki, Azare, Jama’are and Ningi Prisons yesterday, was concluded today at Bauchi Prison.
During the Chief Judge’s visit, three (3) inmates were released in Misau, Zaki 3, Azare Prison 2, Jama’are 5, Ningi 3, While 13 inmates were released from Bauchi Prison making the total number of inmates released 29.
The Chief Judge urged the prosecuting officers of the Nigeria Police to make sure they liaise with the DPP of the State Ministry for Justice to update their records and ensure speedy trial of some inmates with capital charges before her next Prison visit.

Also speaking, the Controller of Prisons Bauchi State Command, CP Suleiman T Suleiman, commended the Chief Judge for the visit and urged the released inmates to be of good behavior and shun crime.
In a related development, CP Suleiman T. Suleiman has earlier inspected Bauchi Prison including some ongoing projects in the Prison. The CP expressed his satisfaction with the quality and level of work reached. The Controller General of Prisons, Ja’afaru Ahmed has in June this year awarded contract of building a new female wing, kitchen and 220 capacity of one storey building shortly after a windstorm damaged some cells block and the prison kitchen. So far, the female wing and kitchen has been completed while the one storey cell block has reached an advanced stage.
