Navy Intercepts Boat with Stolen 900,000 Stolen Crude Oil

Navy Intercepts Boat with Stolen 900,000 Stolen Crude Oil
The Nigerian Navy wishes to inform the general public that it discovered a metal Barge MV JOSH 1 and a wooden boat drifting along Bolo Creek and recovered them on 29 January 2019.

The barge and wooden boat were laden with an estimated 900,000 litres of a substance suspected to be stolen crude oil and 2,500 litres of product suspected to be illegally refined AGO. There were no suspects onboard the vessels at the time of the recovery. In accordance with Part 6 Paragraph 17 of the Harmonised Standard Operating Procedures on Arrest, Detention and Prosecution (HSOP-AD&P) of Vessels and Persons, owners of the vessels are to note that “In the event of failure to reclaim seized and detained vessels by its owner for a period of 12 months, the Agency in Custody of the seized items as the case maybe, shall reserve the power to obtain an order of forfeiture and disposal from a court of competent jurisdiction”.

Accordingly, the general public is hereby notified that the Nigerian Navy will keep the Barge and wooden boat in its custody for a period of 6 months effective from the day of recovery. At the expiration of the 6 months period, it will hand over the vessels to EFCC to obtain forfeiture order in accordance with the law in the absence of any claim of its ownership.

Consequently, owners of the vessels are advised to come forward and reclaim ownership of the vessels, failing which it will be handed over to the EFCC to obtain forfeiture order. Please you are kindly requested to disseminate the information to the general public. Thank you for your usual cooperation.

Operatives of the Nigerian Navy have arrested a total of 19 imposters in the First Quarter of 2019. A breakdown of those arrested shows that 13 were arrested in Calabar/Ikang area, 5 in Yenogoa/Port Harcourt area and 1 in Lagos area. Typically, these criminals were arrested either in possession of fake Navy ID Card or dressed in Navy uniforms (Camouflage or Blue Rig).

For the avoidance of doubt, the NN wishes to inform the general public that wearing and illegal possession of military accoutrements is unlawful and punishable under Section 109, 110 and 251 of Nigerian Criminal Code. To this end, members of the general public are advised not to patronize such unscrupulous individuals in any engagement. The general public is also advised to report to the nearest Naval, Army, Air Force or Police unit any suspicious individual wearing a naval uniform and engaging in non-military or naval duties.

Pakistan Navy Chief Visits Nigeria

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Pakistan Navy, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi will begin a 2 day official visit to Nigeria from 29 April to 1 May 2019. The visit is in line with the ongoing efforts to foster cooperation with navies of allied countries, especially in the areas of capacity building and mutual cooperation between the Pakistan Navy and the Nigerian Navy.

During the 2 day official visit, Admiral Abbasi will hold bilateral discussions with the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, pay courtesy calls on the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mansur Muhammad Dan-Ali as well as the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin. Thereafter, he will proceed to Lagos to visit NNS QUORRA, Western Naval Command and Naval Dockyard Limited respectively.
