Gov Obiano Pays Fines for the Release of Prison Inmates in Anambra

The presidential committee on Prison Reforms and Decongestion led by its chairman and Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory Justice Ishaq Bello has visited Anambra State in continuation turbo of their nation wide tour on Prisons decongestion.

The team which comprises of over fifteen members including the Deputy Controller General of Prisons(CD) Abubarka Garba was received in the state by the Controller of Prisons Anambra State Command Barr. Nwakeze Emmanuel, who led them to pay a courtesy visit on the executive governor Chief Willie Obiano.

In his speech while receiving the committee members at the governor’s lodge, the governor assured them of the hospitality of Ndi Anambra and his commitment to the decongestion of the prisons in the state.

He therefore made available money for the payment of fines for deserving inmates, thereby securing their release from custody.

The committee after their sitting released seven inmates in the state while encouraging the state chief Judge and the Attorney General to review other cases mentioned with a view to seeing that justice is done.

Also present at the committee’s sitting in Awka Prison venue of the exercise were the Acting Chief Judge of the state Justice Ijem Onwuamaegbu and the Attorney General Barr. Uju Nwogu.
