APRA Joins in the Celebration of Mandela Day

In line with the United Nations General Assembly declaration of July 18 as Nelson Mandela International Day, African Public Relations Asociation (APRA) joins the world to celebrate one of Africa’s greatest assets whose name can never be omitted in the history of the African continent.

Madiba as he was fondly called devoted 67 years of his life to the service of humanity bringing freedom to South Africa and Africa as a whole. The 2019 theme in commemoration of Nelson Mandela International Day is ‘For Freedom, Justice and Democracy’.

While contributing his voice to commemorate the day, President of African Public Relations Association, Mr Yomi Badejo-Okusanya stated that ‘’Mandela began the narrative for Africa and as a continental body, APRA shares the same ideals he stood for’’. Today we come together as one continent because of Mandela’s contribution to the struggle for democracy internationally and the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world.

As nations across the globe celebrate Mandela Day, we recognize his values, the fight against poverty, promotion of social justice and the courage to serve as a prisoner of conscience. ‘’I therefore charge us all to uphold the ideals of the day – Freedom, Justice and Democracy because we believe in the greatness of Africa especially if all governments can stand and uphold these ideals’ said the APRA President.

Global Ambassador of APRA and President of Global Alliance (GA), Justin Green added that ‘’We cannot overemphasize the contributions of Madiba to the culture of peace, human right, reconciliation and freedom in Africa as the significance of his existence is one that generations to come cannot but live to embrace’’.

Let us be reminded that we all have a responsibility to change the world and make it a better place just as Mandela did.

Happy Post Humorous Birthday and Happy Nelson Mandela International Day!
