COVID-19: NYSC Corper supports War Veterans from ‘Allawee’
On Sunday 29 March 2020, as Abuja prepared to lock down in compliance with the directives by Government to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, a member of National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) has donated relief items to war veterans in Abuja.
The Batch B2 Youth Corper, Miss Unogwu Comfort who is serving with the Army Headquaters Garrison Mogadishu Cantonment Abuja, said she was financially empowered by the increment in their monthly allowance, popularly known as Allawee as provided by Mr President and also from those who believed in her cause.
The Youth Corper who grew up at the Navy Barracks in Lagos stated that she was motivated to carry out the outreach program out of respect and appreciation with which the veterans have given their all for the peace and unity of Nigeria as well as the West African Sub-region.
She enjoined well meaning Nigerians to do more for the veterans with a view to ensure the best of the remaining days of their lives.
The donation was during her visit to War Veterans of the Green Hero Foundation founded by retired Air Commodore AA Balogun to carryout an extraordinary outreach program that put smiles into the faces of the Veterans in preparedness for the COVID-19 lock down.
Some of the foodstuffs and items donated included bags of Rice, tubers of yams, onions  clothes
The old veterans were all elated and appreciative of the Youth Corper’s magnanimity.
