The appointment of Adeniran follows the demise of the former Statistician-General of the Federation, Dr Simon Harry, on 13th April, 2022. Meanwhile, Professor Simbine will be succeeding the outgoing Director-General, Dr Folarin Gbadebo-Smith whose tenure expires on 31st May, 2022.

Mr Semiu Adeniran is a professional statistician of repute with bias for Demography and Social Statistics.

He has over three decades of statistical hands-on experience garnered from various local and international institutions.

Until his appointment, Mr Semiu was the Director of Demographic and Household Statistics at the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

On the other hand, Mrs Simbine is a Professor of Political Science and International Relations and currently heads the Knowledge Management Development Department at NISER.

Following this appointment, Professor Simbine becomes the first woman to be appointed Director-General of the nation’s apex research institute.
