Fact-Check: How true is the video allegedly released by Police on Davido’s son drowning in the swimming pool?
Claim: A 2-minute 6-second video obtained from CCTV purported to be released by the Police emerged on the media allegedly showing Davido’s three-year-old son drowning in a swimming pool at their Banana Island residence.
Full-Text: The footage that showed a young boy with a lifebuoy around him in what looked like a bathtub rather than a swimming pool was accompanied by the following caption, “Cctv camera captured Davido’s son Ifeanyi moment he drowned in the swimming pool [sic].”
The child was seen struggling in the pool, after a while, the lifebuoy left him and he was motionless. Towards the end of the video, he started to struggle again after re-entering the lifebuoy.
Reacting to the clip, a Facebook user wrote, “This is the most traumatizing video I’ve seen in a long time. It’s not even healthy for anyone to watch this because my knees are still shaking after seeing this.”
Verification: PRNigeria conducted a keyword search and the result from Legit indicated that the Lagos Police Command had falsified the video, describing the video as “fake.”

The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command Benjamin Hundeyin said that they have not started looking at the footage obtained from CCTV of Davido’s house at Banana Island where the incident happened.
He further added that investigation to find out whether what truly transpired before the death of Ifeanyi is ongoing and called on the public to disregard the video in circulation on social media.
PRNigeria used FastVid to download the viral video and converted it to images using a Video-to-JPG converter.
A reverse image search reveals that the footage was first uploaded to YouTube by Salve Vidas Primeriro Socorros two years ago.
Further verification by PRNigeria revealed that the video was that of a Chinese child who drowned in a mini-swimming pool in China sometime in 2019.
Conclusion: PRNigeria, gathers that the Lagos state Police Command did not release any CCTV footage at Davido’s Banana Island home where his son drowned in a swimming pool.
Based on the facts above, PRNigeria concludes the trending footage on alleged drowning of Davido’s son was neither released by the police nor was it an incident that occurred in Nigeria.
