Israel – Palestine War: Over 90 Journalists Killed in 2 Months – IFJ

International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) on Sunday said, more than 90 journalists have been killed since the war broke out between Israel and Palestine in October 7, 2023.

Jim Boumelha, a representative of IFJ, during Aljazeera inside story which is titled “Is Israel deliberately targeting journalists in Gaza?”, attributed 72 percent of journalists killed to be Palestinians covering the war in Gaza.

This is coming as Aljazeera mourned another death of its journalist, Samer Abudaqa, who was reporting from a United Nations-run school in the southern city of Khan Younis when he was targeted by a drone attack.

Aljazeera has over time accused Israeli authorities of targeting its journalists, depriving them of access to conflict zones and destroying footages recorded.

Meanwhile, Boumelha maintained that, they have mainly been Palestinians covering the story as international news outlets have been prevented from entering the Gaza Strip by the Israeli military.

“The war in Gaza has been more deadly for journalists than any single conflict since the IFJ, began recording journalists killed in the line of duty in 1990.

“Deaths have come at “a scale and pace of loss of media professionals’ lives without precedent,” she added.

While quoting Article 79 of Geneva Convention, which protects journalists from armed conflict, Boumelha said, the body is doing everything possible to reach out to the Israeli authorities to uphold the rights of journalists by ensuring their safety.

So far, over 20,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war, about 8000 of them children

Also, over 90 UN workers and almost 200 medical workers have been killed by Israel.
