
Kano Governor Honored as 2025’s Top Governor for Education Investment
Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has been named “Governor of the Year 2025” by Blueprint Newspaper, recognized primarily for his unprecedented investment in the state’s education sector.
Governor Yusuf received the prestigious accolade Tuesday night during Blueprint Newspaper’s Annual Public Lecture and Impact Series held at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Abuja. The award specifically highlights his administration allocating the highest budgetary provision to education among all 36 Nigerian states in 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Information, Ibrahim Adam, the organizers lauded the Kano State Government for prioritizing human capital development. Key achievements cited include:
Extensive renovation of dilapidated school structures.
Sponsorship of thousands of Kano indigenes for local and international scholarships.
Recruitment of qualified teachers to strengthen public schools.

Governor Yusuf was represented at the ceremony by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. He was accompanied by Dr. Haladu Mohammed, Technical Adviser on Education Reform, and Dr. Bashir Abdu Muzakkari, Director General of the Kano State Information Technology Development Agency (KANO-ITDA).
Accepting the award on the Governor’s behalf, Sanusi Bature conveyed the appreciation of the Kano State Government and dedicated the honor to the people of Kano. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transformative governance centered on education.
“This recognition is a testimony that our efforts are being seen and appreciated,” Governor Yusuf said in a statement relayed by Bature. “It is also a reminder that we must continue to serve with sincerity, transparency, and a strong sense of purpose.”
The Blueprint Impact Series celebrates excellence in public service. Other notable awardees at the event included the National Security Adviser, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, each recognized for their contributions to national development and leadership.
