Gunmen Attack in Lagos Community Linked to Land Dispute – Police
The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that gunmen invaded Ajebo Community near Agbowa in the Ikosi–Ejirin Local Council Development Area (LCDA), describing the publication as false, misleading, and capable of inciting public fear.
A statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the viral report by an online platform alleging that armed hoodlums attacked residents, destroyed properties, and fired gunshots indiscriminately was inaccurate.
According to the command, the disturbance in the community was the result of a land dispute between two families, which escalated into chaos before security operatives intervened.
Adebisi explained that upon receiving the distress call, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, immediately deployed joint police intervention teams—including Tactical Squads, Police Mobile Force (PMF) Anti-Riot personnel, operatives from Agbowa Division, Area N Command, and other special units—to restore calm in the area.

“Normalcy was promptly restored, and residents continued with their lawful activities,” he said.
The police spokesperson noted that preliminary investigations confirmed that the clash had nothing to do with an invasion by gunmen, adding that no death or injury was recorded during the confrontation. He emphasised that no firearm was discharged at any point, contrary to the claims circulated online.
He added that leaders of the two families involved in the dispute have been identified and invited to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters for further investigation. They were also cautioned to maintain peace as the police would not hesitate to take decisive action against anyone found instigating violence.
CP Jimoh, while cautioning the public against spreading misinformation, urged journalists to verify facts before publication. He reassured residents of Ajebo Community and Lagos State at large of the command’s continued commitment to ensuring peace, security, and public safety.
The statement was signed by SP Abimbola Adebisi on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, on December 12, 2025.
