EFCC Tasks Legal Officers on Accuracy, Professionalism in Prosecution
The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has tasked legal officers of the Commission to uphold greater diligence, accuracy, and professionalism in the preparation of charges and court processes to strengthen Nigeria’s fight against financial crimes.
Olukoyede gave the charge in Abuja at the opening of a three-day intensive training programme for EFCC legal officers held at the EFCC Academy. He was represented at the event by the Director of Legal and Prosecution Department, Sylvanus Tahir.
Speaking at the event, the EFCC boss emphasised that meticulous case preparation remains a critical pillar for successful prosecution and for sustaining public confidence in the Commission’s operations. He described the training as a strategic initiative designed to align with the Commission’s operational goals for the year, noting that strengthening the capacity of legal officers across EFCC commands nationwide is essential for maintaining high standards of competence and professionalism.

The training programme, titled “Training Programme for Legal Officers on Preparation, Dealing with Appeals in Financial Crimes and Allied Matters, Evidence Gathering and Trial Preparation,” is aimed at enhancing participants’ expertise in key areas of prosecution. These include charge drafting, handling appeals, gathering admissible evidence, and comprehensive trial preparation.
Olukoyede urged participants to take full advantage of the programme through active engagement, stressing that the sessions are practical and directly relevant to their day-to-day responsibilities in court. He noted that the training focuses on real-life prosecutorial challenges rather than theoretical discussions.
Participants drawn from various EFCC commands are expected to apply the knowledge gained to improve the quality of prosecutions, minimise procedural errors, and enhance effective justice delivery in financial crimes cases.
The initiative underscores the EFCC’s commitment to continuous professional development as part of broader efforts to strengthen institutional capacity in combating economic and financial crimes across Nigeria.
