Troops Eliminate 4 Terrorists in Sokoto, Rescue Abductees, Dismantle Bandits’ Camps in Bauchi
Nigerian troops have sustained coordinated counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations across the North-West and North-East regions, killing four terrorists in Sokoto State and rescuing kidnapped victims during a major clearance mission in Bauchi State.
Security sources disclosed that troops of the 8 Division Garrison repelled a late-night terrorist attack in Tara village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State on April 11. The troops, deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Gatawa, responded swiftly to reports of insurgent activities around 11:50 p.m.
On arrival, the soldiers engaged the attackers in a gun battle, overpowering them with superior firepower and killing four terrorists on the spot. The remaining assailants fled the scene, while no casualties were recorded among the troops. Security operatives have since maintained heightened vigilance to forestall further attacks in the area.
In a separate but related operation, troops under Operation WUTAN DAJI carried out a large-scale clearance mission targeting bandits’ enclaves in Bauchi State.

The operation, conducted by troops of the 33 Artillery Brigade Garrison in collaboration with the Brigade Headquarters and a team from the Office of the National Security Adviser, focused on Kumbodoro forest and surrounding communities. It was led by Brigadier-General S.S. Shehu as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks.
During the operation, several bandits’ camps, including those linked to Azuge, were destroyed, while an unspecified number of criminals were neutralised. Troops also rescued eight kidnapped victims and recovered a cache of weapons and items, including rifles, dane guns, ammunition magazines, communication equipment, and multiple personal effects.
Additionally, troops stationed in Duguri, working with local vigilantes, recovered 36 cows at Mushen Kura village. The livestock are believed to have fled from bandits’ camps amid sustained military pressure and are currently in custody pending further action.
Sources indicated that troops have maintained their positions in the Kumbodoro forest to consolidate operational gains, noting that morale and combat effectiveness remain high as security forces continue efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of movement in the region.
