CP Shaffa Pushes Inter-Agency Synergy to Combat Insecurity in Sokoto
The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, has embarked on an operational tour of key security agencies, seeking stronger collaboration to tackle rising security challenges in the state.
The tour, conducted on April 13, 2026, took the police chief to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and the Department of State Services (DSS), in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on enhancing coordinated security operations nationwide.
During his visit to the NIS, CP Shaffa held discussions with the State Controller on border security, migration patterns, and measures to curb the illegal movement of persons and arms across international borders.
At the Nigeria Customs Service, Sokoto and Zamfara Area Command, the Commissioner met with the Area Comptroller, where talks focused on combating smuggling, intercepting prohibited items, and disrupting supply chains linked to banditry and other criminal activities.

The final leg of the tour saw the police chief in a closed-door meeting with the DSS Director in Sokoto State, where both parties reviewed threat assessments, intelligence-sharing frameworks, and joint operational strategies aimed at proactively neutralising criminal elements.
Speaking during the engagements, CP Shaffa stressed that addressing insecurity in the North-West requires seamless collaboration among security agencies.
“No single agency can tackle these challenges alone. The directive from the Inspector General is clear—we must break down silos and operate as a unified force,” he said.
He described the visits as part of efforts to strengthen intelligence-led policing, joint patrols, and coordinated responses to emerging threats.
Heads of the respective agencies welcomed the initiative, pledging improved cooperation, regular information sharing, and joint operations.
The tour is expected to lead to the development of a joint action framework, including harmonised patrols, rapid response strategies, and periodic inter-agency review meetings across the state.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, the initiative underscores the Command’s commitment to strengthening security coordination and safeguarding lives and property in Sokoto State.
