NIS Denies Third-Party Role in Passport Payments, Warns Public Against Fraud
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has dismissed as false and misleading recent claims suggesting irregularities in its passport application and payment process, reaffirming that its official portal remains the sole authorized platform for all related transactions.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the Service stressed that its passport application system is secure, transparent, and fully approved by the Federal Government. It clarified that all applications and payments must be conducted բrivately through its designated online portal, accessible to Nigerians both within the country and abroad.
The NIS has categorically denied allegations that any religious organization or private entity is involved in its payment structure, describing such claims as baseless and inconsistent with its established processes. It emphasized that it has not authorized any intermediary, individual, or group to act on its behalf in processing passport payments.
According to the Service, any platform or payment link outside its official portal purporting to offer passport services is fraudulent and should be avoided. It urged the public to verify all transactions through its authorized system to ensure authenticity and security.

The Service disclosed that it has commenced investigations into the origin of the false claims, noting that preliminary findings point to deliberate attempts by individuals to mislead the public or damage the institution’s reputation. It assured that appropriate legal action would be taken against those found responsible.
Reiterating its compliance with government financial regulations, the NIS stated that it works only with licensed and accredited payment providers integrated into its official platform. It warned that any payments made outside these approved channels are at the payer’s risk, and the Service would not be liable for any resulting losses.
The agency further advised Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with unauthorized agents or third-party service providers, stressing that it does not recognize alternative payment arrangements for passport services.
The NIS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public trust by continuously strengthening its systems against fraud and abuse. It encouraged citizens seeking clarification or assistance to utilize its verified communication channels, including its social media platforms and dedicated contact lines.
The statement was signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja.
