Troops Neutralise IED Threats, Disrupt Logistics Network in N’East Operations
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recorded significant operational gains against terrorist groups in the North-East, neutralising improvised explosive device (IED) threats, repelling insurgent attacks and disrupting terrorist logistics networks in a series of coordinated operations conducted between June 16 and 19, 2026.
The military disclosed that the operations, carried out across different locations within the theatre, formed part of ongoing efforts to degrade the capabilities of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.
In one of the operations, troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team, working alongside the Quick Reaction Force (QRF), successfully detected and destroyed five improvised explosive devices planted by terrorists along the Biu–Buratai Road in Borno State.
The operation followed intelligence provided by local residents on June 16 regarding the presence of explosive devices along the route. Acting promptly on the information, the troops conducted a fighting patrol to the area, located the IEDs and professionally detonated them without casualties.
Military authorities said the successful clearance operation averted potential attacks on commuters and enhanced the safety of road users along the strategic corridor.
On June 17, troops of the 153 Task Force Battalion engaged a large group of terrorists during a tactical movement along the Miyanti–Ngoshe axis after completing a picketing duty in Kirawa.

According to the military, the troops encountered an unconfirmed number of insurgents riding on about 60 motorcycles. The terrorists reportedly opened fire on the soldiers, who responded with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat towards Miyanti.
Although the number of terrorist casualties could not be immediately verified, troops recovered 817 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, three motorcycles, two solar panels, 102 sachets of salt, a motorcycle tyre, two motorcycle tubes and other spare parts believed to be intended for terrorist operations.
In another breakthrough on June 19, troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade Garrison intercepted two suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP logistics suppliers during a routine stop-and-search operation at a military checkpoint.
The suspects, identified as Mohammed Bukar, also known as “Dege”, 35, and his apprentice, Iliyasu Abdullahi, 26, were arrested while travelling in a cyan Volkswagen vehicle with registration number FGF-357-AG.
Troops discovered that the vehicle was conveying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and relief materials allegedly destined for Boko Haram and ISWAP elements operating within the region.
Military authorities said the arrests represent another significant step in ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist supply chains and cut off resources that sustain insurgent activities.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups, denying them freedom of movement and disrupting their operational and logistics capabilities across the North-East.
The military also called on members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that civilian cooperation remains critical to the success of counter-terrorism operations.
The details were contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, in Maiduguri.
