PSC Promotes 93 Senior Police Officers, Elevates 13 CPs to AIG
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 93 senior police officers to higher ranks following their successful participation in written examinations and oral interviews conducted at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The promotions were approved during the commission’s plenary meeting held on Wednesday at its Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement issued by the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the commission said the promotions comprise 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) promoted to Commissioners of Police (CPs), 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) promoted to Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), and 33 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) elevated to Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
The newly promoted Assistant Inspectors-General of Police are Itam Nnaghe Obono, Bassey Samuel Ewah, Osagie John Agans-Irabor, Monday Agbonika, Iyamah Daniel Adebor, Isa Danladi Nda, Akaninyene Ezima, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, Afegbua B. Rashid, Edozie Hycenth Azuka, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin.

The commission also approved the promotion of 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the substantive rank of Commissioner of Police. They include Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle A. Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Rita Oyintare, Ibrahim Umar Zungura, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu, Nuruddeen A. Sabo, Tijjani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Ahmed, Adedeji Taiwo and Zainab A. Pembi.
Similarly, 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police were promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police, while 33 Chief Superintendents of Police were elevated to Assistant Commissioner of Police.
Beyond the senior officer promotions, the commission also confirmed the appointments of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I (ASP I).
Speaking after the plenary, PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through dedication, professionalism and exemplary service.
He charged the officers to remain truthful, transparent and accountable in the discharge of their duties, while cautioning them against involvement in civil matters, particularly land disputes.
Argungu also reminded the officers to protect their integrity and reputation throughout their careers, stressing that life after retirement should always guide their conduct in service.
“Guard your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you,” the PSC chairman said.
