PRP Accuses Bauchi Government of Partisan Use of Public Infrastructure, Threatens Legal Action
The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has accused the state government and the ruling Allied Peoples Movement (APM) of abusing public infrastructure for partisan political campaigns, alleging selective enforcement of campaign regulations ahead of the forthcoming local government and 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by its State Chairman, Abdurrahman Yusuf Muazu, the PRP condemned what it described as the defacement of major public monuments, including Kofar Gombe, Kofar Nassarawa, and Kofar Ran, with the ruling party’s colours, logos and insignia.
The opposition party alleged that despite the Bauchi State Government’s recent directive ordering all political parties to remove campaign billboards, banners and posters from public infrastructure within a specified period, the ruling APM had continued to display its campaign materials across the state without consequence.
According to Muazu, the development amounts to selective application of the law and undermines the principles of fairness, equity and the rule of law.
“The continued display of the ruling party’s campaign materials on public infrastructure, despite the government’s own directive, creates an uneven playing field and erodes public confidence in the impartiality of government actions,” he said.
The PRP argued that the alleged conduct contravenes relevant provisions of the Electoral Act governing campaign activities and the use of public property for partisan purposes.

The party expressed concern that the perceived bias could undermine public confidence in future elections, questioning whether the state government could guarantee a transparent electoral process if campaign regulations were not applied equally to all political parties.
Muazu maintained that the PRP, which he said was gaining increasing support across Bauchi State, would not allow partisan interests to compromise the integrity of the democratic process.
He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to intervene and ensure that all political parties are accorded equal treatment in accordance with the Electoral Act.
The PRP also demanded that the Bauchi State Government and the ruling APM remove all campaign materials displayed on public infrastructure within three days, insisting that the cost of such removal should be borne entirely by the ruling party and not from public funds.
The party warned that failure to comply with the demand would leave it with no option but to institute legal proceedings against the state government, the APM and other relevant authorities over alleged violations of electoral and constitutional provisions.
The statement further urged the Nigeria Police Force to expedite investigations into petitions submitted by PRP members over alleged harassment at the Kofar Gombe gate, calling for the prosecution of anyone found culpable.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles, the PRP called on all relevant institutions to uphold justice, fairness and transparency in enforcing campaign regulations and conducting future elections.
“The people of Bauchi deserve a level playing field free from partisan bias and selective enforcement of the law. We will continue to advocate for fairness, accountability and integrity in the state’s electoral process,” Muazu stated.
