DHQ Engages Military Veterans, Pledges Improved Welfare
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare of retired military personnel, assuring veterans that efforts are underway to implement the recently approved salary increase and corresponding pension adjustments through the appropriate statutory processes.
The assurance was given during a one-day strategic retreat convened by the Defence Headquarters under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, with the leadership of various military veterans’ associations at the Army Headquarters Command Mess 1, Asokoro, Abuja.
The retreat, organised in collaboration with the Retired Army, Navy and Air Force Officers’ Association of Nigeria (RANAO), provided a platform for dialogue, collaboration and renewed commitment to addressing the welfare needs of retired personnel who served in the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Representing the Chief of Defence Staff at the event, the Chief of Defence Operations, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, said continuous engagement with veterans remains the most effective means of resolving issues affecting retired service personnel.
He stressed that the welfare of military veterans remains a top priority for the Defence Headquarters under the leadership of General Oluyede, adding that the military high command is committed to sustaining open and constructive dialogue with veterans’ groups.
