Police Arrest 6 Over Unauthorized Distribution of Local Medicine in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has arrested six persons for allegedly administering and distributing unverified locally made medicine without regulatory approval during a medical outreach in Kano.
The suspects, who were reportedly attached to the Brother Paul Legacy Foundation, were intercepted by operatives of the 52 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Challawa, on August 4, 2026, while conducting the exercise at the ECWA Church located behind the 52 PMF Base in Challawa.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were allegedly administering the locally produced medicine free of charge and offering it for sale to large numbers of residents from the Panshekara community who had gathered at the church.
Police identified the leader of the group as Simon Gbaaondo, 50, from Karu in Nasarawa State.
The Command said the outreach had earlier generated public concern and complaints from members of the community, prompting security operatives to intervene.

The individual who hosted the group on the church premises has also been invited by the police to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the unauthorized activity.
The matter was initially reported at the Panshekara Police Division before being transferred to the Kano State Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where the suspects are currently undergoing investigation.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, warned individuals, organizations and groups against administering drugs, locally made medicine or conducting medical outreaches without obtaining the necessary approvals from the Kano State Government, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and other relevant health regulatory authorities.
The police noted that unauthorized medical activities pose significant public health and security risks, particularly when they attract large gatherings.
The Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining public order across the state, stressing that it would not tolerate any activity capable of endangering public health.
Residents were urged to report suspicious medical outreaches or the distribution of unverified medicines to the nearest police station, assuring that further updates on the investigation would be made available as the case progresses.
