CCC Hails FG, Labour Unions on Historic Minimum Wage Accord

The Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC) has welcomed the landmark agreement reached between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the country’s labour unions in resolving the long-standing minimum wage dispute.

In a statement, the Chairman of the CCC, Major General Chris Olukolade (Rtd.), praised the collaborative efforts that led to this successful outcome, noting that it has helped to reduce tensions within the polity and avert the potential for crises that could have erupted.

“This agreement is a testament to the power of dialogue and constructive engagement,” Olukolade said. “By coming together and finding a mutually acceptable solution, the government and labour unions have demonstrated their commitment to the well-being of Nigerian workers and the stability of our nation.”

The CCC had previously urged the federal and state governments, as well as the organized private sector, to prioritize the resolution of the minimum wage negotiations, warning that the issue had the potential to spark off unnecessary and volatile crises with far-reaching consequences for national security.

“The unresolved minimum wage issue had pitched the labour movement against the federal government, and we were concerned that this could escalate into a situation that would be difficult to manage,” Olukolade explained. “We, therefore, called on all parties to summon the courage to make the necessary decisions and reach a conclusion, rather than constantly postponing the resolution of this critical matter.”

The CCC commends the government and labour unions for heeding this call and demonstrating their commitment to finding a lasting solution that takes into account the needs of workers and the overall economic realities of the country.

“This agreement sets a positive precedent for how disputes can be resolved through dialogue and compromise,” Olukolade said. “We hope that this spirit of cooperation will continue to guide the government and all stakeholders as they tackle other pressing issues facing the nation.”

The Centre for Crisis Communication reaffirms its dedication to promoting peace, stability, and constructive engagement in Nigeria, and stands ready to support efforts that contribute to the country’s socio-economic development and national security.
