
Nigeria Defence Academy Honours Cadets, Scholars at 35th Convocation Ceremony
The Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) on Thursday held its 35th convocation ceremony at its permanent site in Afaka, Kaduna, with more than 2,600 graduands honoured for their academic and military achievements.
The event featured the conferment of degrees, award of certificates, academic prizes, and honorary degrees to distinguished personalities. A total of 72 cadet officers of the 72 Regular Course and 2,546 postgraduate students received honours in various disciplines, including engineering, sciences, arts, and social sciences.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who was the Special Guest of Honour, was represented by the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, while the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, stood in on his behalf.

In his welcome address, the Commandant of the NDA, Major General A.K. Ibrahim, noted that all the academy’s academic programmes were fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). He stressed that the institution’s focus on discipline, capacity building, and skill acquisition had positioned its cadets to excel both at home and in international missions.
“This ceremony is not just about awarding degrees but also about celebrating excellence, patriotism, and the commitment of our cadets and scholars who have dedicated themselves to learning and service,” he said.
Among the prizes presented, the Honourable Minister of Defence Award went to Cadet G.A. Olowokere, who emerged as the best graduating student in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Other awards were also given to cadets who graduated with second-class upper division and above.
The convocation also featured the admission of postgraduate graduands into the NDA Alumni Association, as well as the conferment of honorary degrees on eminent Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in service to humanity.
The Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Dr. Sunday Musa Attah, was among dignitaries who graced the ceremony.
