Troops Crush ISWAP Command, Neutralise Top Terrorist Leader in North-East
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have neutralised a top ISWAP commander, killed several terrorists, recovered arms, rescued abducted civilians, and foiled criminal attacks in a series of sustained, intelligence-driven operations across the North-East.
The major breakthrough followed the confirmed killing of Julaibib, a high-value ISWAP commander operating within the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle.
He was neutralised during a fierce encounter around Kimba, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, on January 30, 2026, dealing a decisive blow to the group’s command and control structure.
Military intelligence revealed that the elimination of the terrorist leader threw ISWAP elements in the area into disarray, with several fighters also neutralised during the operation.

Further consolidating the gains, troops on January 29, 2026, engaged Boko Haram/ISWAP elements at Tsokorok, Gwoza Local Government Area, killing one terrorist and recovering two motorcycles, with no casualties recorded on the side of the troops.
Operations also extended to Adamawa State, where troops swiftly foiled an armed robbery attempt at Barama community, Mubi North LGA, arresting two suspects and recovering weapons and stolen items. One suspect sustained a gunshot wound while attempting to resist arrest.
Earlier, on January 28, 2026, troops, working with local vigilantes, engaged terrorists along the Amtasa–Washim axis in Hong LGA, forcing them to flee in disarray. A woman abducted by the terrorists was rescued, while arms and ammunition were recovered.
According to the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the overall security situation across the theatre remains stable, as troops sustain offensive pressure to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace in the North-East.
