On the Ceasefire with Iran
By Tunde Asaju
While I don’t believe that the aggression will end, I congratulate the government and people of Iran for standing up to two formidable bullies sworn to its annihilation. That they have survived the incessant assault is proof that the government in Iran has the firm support of the majority of its citizenry. That is what legitimacy means, not a ceremonial slogan of one-man-one-vote, after all America has that type, yet the regime in Washington remains unpopular in America and across the world.
The victory of Iran over its ultra-armed enemies was a strategic one that will be studied in political classrooms virtual and physical for a long time.
The Iranian leaders have sacrificed as much as its long-suffering people. But through it all, they have remained confident, strategic, resolute and humane. Their level of resilience is unmatched and perhaps helped disarm those who felt that bilious rhetoric, indiscriminate bombing and manipulative media aggression can silence a people united.
Nigerian philosopher music icon, Bongos Ikwue once sang-a people united will never fall. A united Iran withstood aggression, paid for the preservation of its sovereignty with the blood of its leaders and citizens. It considers this martyrdom, we agree with that cultural definition.

It is gladdening to see the rump of the Shah, a post-colonial contraption and its misguided supporters lose. If they truly have the valiant blood of Persia running in their veins, they will go down on their knees and ask for forgiveness for the lies they told, the resources of the enemy that they collected to sustain propaganda against Iran’s authentic leadership. They will genuinely join hands with the government and people of Iran to rebuild the broken walls and mend the ramparts. If they do, perhaps history will forgive their betrayal of their homeland, the ancestral corruption that sent them to exile in the first place. Together, all Iranians can rebuild trust, reintegrate and sustain entente.
To the Western world, it is time to drop the idea of a unipolar world, it is neither desirable nor sustainable. The beauty of the world as is, is the colorfulness that diversity engenders. Let those who practice democracy not impose their will on those living under theocracy, let those who embrace socialism not embark on a crusade to globalize it while those that practice monarchism sustain their system with perestroika and glasnost.
As African elders say, the skies are wide enough for birds to fly without violently touching wings. This ‘truce’ if it stands would prove essentially that might is NOT always right. Best wishes to the reconstruction of Iran and the preservation of its culture and civilization.
Finally, the negative signal from the corrupt and misguided Zionist elements is not surprising. Our elders say bí èèyàn ò bá ṣe ohun ètùfù kii kíyèsí ẹ̀yìnkùlé – literally those who have done nothing wrong have no need to watch over their shoulders. In the final analysis, the eternal security of Israel lies in the safety and security of its neighbours. No amount of intimidation can achieve the respect that mutual trust and love can build. Unfortunately, there can never be peace under Netanyahu, and he will always need the immunity of office to escape the jail term that is the least punishment globally sanctioned for his intransigence and crimes against humanity. If Israel believes in divine promises, it should act like children of the divine who causes the rain and the sun to fall and shine on the wicked and the just.
