Navy Intercepts 364 Bags of Foreign Rice in Badagry, Hands Over to Customs
The Nigerian Navy has intercepted 364 bags of foreign parboiled rice suspected to have been smuggled into Nigeria through the country’s maritime borders.
The seizure was made by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) BADAGRY during a series of intelligence-led operations conducted within its Area of Operations.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, on Wednesday, the operation underscores the Nigerian Navy’s continued efforts to combat smuggling and other cross-border crimes while protecting Nigeria’s maritime borders and economic interests.
The seized consignment comprised 302 good bags and 62 damaged bags of foreign parboiled rice.

The Nigerian Navy formally handed over the consignment to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Western Marine Command, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the FOB BADAGRY Jetty.
The Navy said the handover was carried out in accordance with extant regulations and established procedures.
It described the successful interception and subsequent handover as a demonstration of the importance of sustained collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and other government agencies in combating smuggling and other forms of cross-border criminality.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining effective maritime security and supporting relevant government agencies in protecting Nigeria’s territorial waters, borders and economic interests.
The Navy also urged members of the public and maritime stakeholders to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing and disrupting criminal activities within Nigeria’s maritime environment.
