Kano Task Force Inaugurates Nine Committees to Boost Fight Against Drug Abuse, Trafficking
The Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Trafficking (MATFDAT) in Kano State has inaugurated nine committees as part of efforts to strengthen coordination and intensify the campaign against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the state.
The committees were inaugurated on Friday, August 21, 2026, by the Chairman of the Task Force, Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, Esq., who charged members to demonstrate commitment, discipline and professionalism in carrying out their responsibilities.
Rimin Gado stressed that the success of the Task Force would depend largely on the seriousness and dedication with which members approached their assignments, given the scale and complexity of drug-related challenges confronting the state.
He urged members to redouble their efforts, work collectively and remain focused on the objectives of the Task Force, noting that combating drug abuse and trafficking required sustained commitment, effective coordination and a shared sense of responsibility among relevant stakeholders.

According to him, the committees were established to provide a more coordinated and specialised response to different dimensions of the drug problem, while ensuring that stakeholders work collaboratively towards achieving sustainable results.
The nine committees are Finance, Media and Publicity; Advocacy and Sensitisation; Licences, Inventory and Verification; Compliance, Inspection and Electronic Tracking; Monitoring and Implementation; Intelligence; Reformative and Traditional Council; and Anti-Drug Coordination Committee.
The Task Force said the committee structure was designed to ensure coordinated responsibilities across key areas of intervention and enhance the effectiveness of its operations.
The Chairman urged members to regard their appointments as a call to service rather than merely an assignment, stressing that the responsibilities entrusted to them required discipline, professionalism and commitment to the collective interest.
He also called for stronger collaboration among the committees and urged them to ensure that their activities translated into measurable and concrete outcomes in the ongoing campaign against drug abuse and trafficking.
The inauguration represents a further step by the Multi-Agency Task Force towards strengthening institutional coordination and broadening the response to drug-related challenges in Kano State.
The committees are expected to deploy their expertise and work in coordination with relevant stakeholders to support a more effective and sustainable anti-drug campaign across the state.
