Army Resource Centre Drives Human Capacity- Buratai

The Strategic Management and Policy Studies Course 1/2018, which was organized by the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, was designed to develop a critical thinking mass at the top echelon of the Nigerian Army (NA), which is required for the management of men, resources and equipment, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has said.

Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), added that the course was conceived to help in the promotion of inter-agency collaboration, by deepening the existing relationship and understanding among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Lt. Gen. Buratai, spoke at the graduation ceremony organized for participants of the ‘Strategic Management and Policy Studies Course 1/2018,’ at the Army Resource Centre.

He said the idea to develop this programme was borne out of the desire to adequately prepare top-level senior officers on how to examine and understand security through another prism, particularly the management of public and private entrepreneur ventures, among others.

The COAS, expressed delight that the curriculum of the strategic management and policy studies course, which centres on four thematic areas of policy, management, entrepreneurship and research development, has fully justified the intervention of the capacity-building programme.

“Additionally, the collaboration with the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA’s) post-graduate schools, which has resulted in awarding participants a Masters degree on the successful completion of this course is quite significant towards actualizing the human capacity drive of NA,” he said.

The ‘Special Guest of Honour’, General Gabriel Olonisakin, who is the Chief of Defence Staff, commended Buratai for initiating the course, as part of the human resources development efforts of NA.

He assured that the Armed Forces will continue to train its military personnel, as part of acquiring general education, in all spheres of human endevours for the benefit of the nation, maintaining that the participants’ productivity will now be higher as the course has afforded them the opportunity to view security issues from a wider perspective.

In his remark, Major General G. A. Wahab, the Director General of the Resource Centre, maintained that the Masters degree acquired by the participants will not only add to their rich resume, but hopefully enable them navigate the dynamic environment of the Civil Society.

“As you graduate today and return back to your various MDAs, you must endevour to apply the knowledge gained to generate realistic solutions towards addressing the contemporary challenges facing the nation,” the Chief Host said.

On the sideline of the graduation ceremony, the Chief of Defence Staff and Buratai also unveiled four new Mine Resistant Anti-Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, which were designed and manufactured in Nigeria by NA in partnership with Proforce Limited.

The manufacturing of the MRAP vehicles in the country is in line with the local content policy of the Federal Government, together with the burning desire of COAS for the Army to also embark on the indigenous production of defence hardwares, while promoting the spirit of self-reliance in the Army.

It would be recalled that under Lt. Gen. Buratai, NA successfully established the first ever Army vehicle manufacturing company both in Nigeria and Africa.

It also recently commenced the manufacturing and production of various types of combat and bullet proof vehicles, ballistic helmets, and protective jackets, among other hardwares.
