NBC Seeks Synergy on Timely Boundary Management
The Director General of the National Boundary Commission, Surv. Adamu Adaji has charged boundary managers on effective boundary management techniques that will engender peace in boundary communities.
The Director General gave this charge in Gombe while addressing participants at a 2 day interactive session between the National Boundary Commission and the Boundary Committees of the North East Zone.
Adaji described the event as epochal, one which he said would afford managers of boundary affairs both at the federal and state levels to brainstorm on ways of evolving far reaching decisions to fast track the issues of the definition of interstate boundaries of the North East states.
Adaji urged the states and local government Boundary Committees to work closely with the National Boundary Commission explaining that the synergy will lead to a change of narratives in boundary management in the country.
He called on participants to come up with resolutions that would help to resolve thorny interstate boundaries issues that have in the past plagued our peaceful coexistence.
He also expressed concern at the unnecessary boundary disputes in boundary communities stressing that it was for the purposes of resolving these disputes that the federal government created the Commission.
He therefore urged states and local government Boundary Committees to compliment the efforts of the National Boundary Commission by timely intervening in contentious boundary issues or reporting such issues to the NBC before it escalates into war.
He noted that government can only consolidate on developments in an atmosphere of peace.
“With the outcome of this meeting it is hoped that participants will take home the message of peaceful coexistence to their various communities and this would usher in a new regime of peace in our society and signal in new dawn for development” he added.
Participants at the occasion includes the host of the event, Governor of Gombe state represented by the Deputy Governor Manasseh Daniel Jatau, the deputy governor of Yobe State, former Minister of the Environment Ministry, Surv. Suleiman Hassan, Representative of the Surveyor General of the Federal Government, Surv. Adeyemi Adebomehin members of the National Assembly, Board members of the National Boundary Commission amongst other important dignitaries that graced the occasion.
