Igbo Leaders Rebuild Police Stations, Warn Hoodlums against Violent Protests in Nnewi

The Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone-13; Danmallam Mohammed, fdc, psc has visited the sites of police facilities vandalized by hoodlums in Nnewi in Anambra State during the #EndSARS protests.

His visitation was in line with the directive of the Inspector General of the Nigeria Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, Npm, mni for full resumption of duties by men of the Force after the recent riotous protests that rocked the country.

The AIG used the opportunity and paid a courtesy call on the traditional ruler of Nnewi, His Royal Majesty, Igwe (Dr) Kenneth Orizu, CON, in his palace.

Receiving the Assistant Inspector General, the traditional ruler berated the hoodlums whom he said were not indigenes of Nnewi as the people of Nnewi were known for business and have no time to engage in destructive ventures as seen recently during the violent #EndSARS protest that took turns in destruction of police facilities and killing officers in the area.

He said that as a place that has influx of foreigners, it was possible that such mayhems could come from strange characters. He extolled the AIG and his team for their prompt responses to security issues, warning that hoodlums should not again disturb the peaceful area widely known for business and manufacturing.

In their separate speeches, the President General of Otolo Nnewi Town, Sir. Ugochukwu Udemezue thanked the AIG and his team for coming and requested for a fresh understanding with members of the public and the police.

He frowned at the destructive stock following the protest and berated police higher authority for not addressing the issues result of which was why the unrest that befell the country came to fore.

He went further to assure the AIG of full support by the town, as he sought a punishment of erring officers at the course of discharging their duties.

Mr Patrick Mbajiaka, a former chairman of Nnewi North LGA, stated that the reconstruction of the Otolo Division, CPS Nnewi was nearing completion as contractors were speeding works on the sites.

He thanked God that no police’s life was lost in the insurrection in the council area, promising that such a destructive outing would not reoccur in the area.

AIG Danmallam thanked the traditional ruler and the stakeholders for warm reception and assured them of the readiness of the Zone-13 to swiftly react to security concerns in the area. He also pleaded that the err of a single policeman should not be a yardstick to condemn all police Officers.

The AIG also used the opportunity to appeal to the good people of Nnewi to support the ongoing rebuild of the Police stations burnt during the #Endsars protest so that Policing can take its shape and to give intelligence on people that carried out the mayhem as no one is above the law for possible prosecution.

He promised them of tighter and more working relationship with the people of the area, as he beseeched the people to work with the police for the actualisation of perfect policing of the area as security is everyone’s business.
