Minister of State II, for Power, Works and Housing, has reiterated the determined effort of the Federal Government to deliver on the Housing Programme to Nigerians and thereby reducing the housing deficit in the country.
Speaking during the continuation of his inspection visit to the National Housing Progrmme (NHP) sites in Bauchi and Jos, the minister stated that it was the intention of the present administration to deliver houses to Nigerians and said the programme will be a continuos one. According to him. “We intend to duplicate same in no distant time”
Addressing some of the complaints by contractors on site, particularly on the issues of delayed payments, the minister promised that as critical partners in the programme, government will ensure that they are paid. “As critical partners, we will pay you so that we don’t lose focus on the programme and deliver on the project” He also called for more effort by the contractors in order to deliver on their various projects.
He commended the commitment of the various contractors and the quality of works done so far which are at various stages of completion, stating that it showed that Nigerians share in the vision of the President Buhari led administration to deliver on critical infrastructure to Nigerians.
The minister particularly commended the Jos site for providing critical infrastructure such as boreholes and the quality of installations done. Noting that “it tells a good story of the collaboration between the contractors and the supervisors” He appealed for more synergy between all the critical partners in the delivery of the project. Also, while in Bauchi, the minister commended the work done, stating that “the finishings are good”
At Jos site, the district head of Laminga where the housing project is sited, Adagwom Izong Abok, hailed the Federal Government for the project, stating that it has provided employment to indigenes of the community with more than 2,000 locals being engaged at various stages of the construction. He however appealed to the minister to impress upon the state government to provide access road to the community and also for the Federal government to link the community to electricity supply.
In Bauchi and later in Jos, the minister was conducted round the sites by the Federal Controller (Housing)/NHP Team Leader, Arc Mohammed Adamu and Federal Controller (Housing)/NHP Team Leader, Arc Ochapa Adadu respectively.
