Again, FG Begs Non-Teaching Staff of Universities to Call off Strike
The end has appeared in sight for the prolonged strike by the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) operating under the acronym of the Joint Action Committee as the unions agreed this evening to summon a meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, March 7, 2018 to brief their members with a view to calling off their strike.
This is following a successful conciliation meeting at the instance of the Hon. Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige.
The meeting which had the leadership of the unions and the officials of the Federal Ministry of Education in attendance deliberated exhaustively on all the outstanding issues raised by the unions.
Rounding off the meeting, Sen. Ngige recounted all the steps already taken by the current administration to permanently resolve all outstanding matters that disrupt academic activities in the universities as well as the measures being taken at present to settle the trade dispute with the Joint Action Committee. He therefore appealed to them to call off the strike.
