Excellence in Journalism: NYSC Honours PRNigeria Corper as ‘Best Corps Writer’

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has honoured a corps member, Isa Ismail with a Certificate of Commendation as the Best Corps Writer for his exceptional ‘news reporting talent and opinion writing skills’ in promoting the scheme, youth development and national integrity.

The corps member who served at the Abuja Office of Image Merchants Promotion Limited, the publishers of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential, was a Second Class Upper (2-1) graduate of Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

The Certificate of Honour was presented by the NYSC Coordinator in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Hajiya Walida Siddique Isa at a brief ceremony in her office.

Hajiya Walida said the corper was honoured for portraying the Scheme in a positive light through several ‘top-notch’ stories and edifying articles, which were published on PRNigeria, and notable national dailies including The Punch, DailyTrust, The Guardian, The Nation, Tribune, and Blueprint newspapers, among others.

“We are honouring Isa Ismail because of his outstanding performance, which has made him to emerge as the ‘Best Corps Writer,” she said.

She recalled his outstanding commitment while carrying out his duties as President of the Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS), during his orientation exercise.

She said: “Before his recommendation by his Place of Primary Assignment, Ismaila has been very handy to the Scheme as he served as the President of OBS during his orientation exercise. Even after the exercise, he has sustained that commitment in his PPA through out the service year.”

She urged him to sustain the tempo wherever he may find himself in the future, been a “worthy ambassador of the NYSC Scheme.”

The NYSC Zonal Coordinator, further encouraged Ismaila to remain committed and focused in contributing his own quote to the development of his fatherland.

Speaking in the same vein, the Deputy Director, Corps Discipline and Reward, Mrs. Bamai Dawuda, while attesting to the ex-corps member’s dedication to official assignments, recalled the role he played as an Hausa language interpreter during the NYSC Lassa Fever Sensitization Visit to a rural community within the FCT.

As for Mrs. Comfort Jackson, the Acting Director, Press and Public Relations, she said she was perhaps the first person to notice his sterling qualities as she had worked closely with him from camp in the OBS and even after the exercise.

She added that, the presentation of a certificate of commendation to him is an honor well deserved, while urging him to work harder in his future endevours.

Ismaila, in a short remark, appreciated the Coordinator and NYSC management for honoring him.

Isah Ismaila with FCT code number FC/19B/2697, did his primary assignment with IMPR, publishers of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential authored numerous authoritative, insightful and engaging articles centred on youths empowerment, national development, the NYSC scheme among others.
