NiDCOM, NIDO Russia call for aspora Investment

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, (NIDCOM) has applauded NIDO Russia for facilitating investment opportunities back to the country.

Dabiri-Erewa made this statement while receiving the ‘Fact Finding Trade Mission’ from Russian Federation led by Amb. Abdullahi Shehu, Nigerian Ambassador to Russia, in Abuja.

“it is noteworthy that this investment is facilitated by our Diaspora “She said, adding that the visit was coming shortly after the just concluded Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS) which has as its vision “A Nigerian economy promoted by Diaspora investors and partners”

Dabiri-Erewa implored other diaspora organisation chapters across the globe to follow the steps of NIDO Russia in leading more investments to Nigeria while staying united wherever they are.

The NiDCOM boss assured the mission that they will leave with numerous opportunities especially with the support of the Ambassador, noting that 34 states now have diaspora focal persons.

The Nigerian Ambassador to Russia, Amb. Abdullahi Shehu, who led the delegation, commended the Chairman for her hard work and resilience in championing the Nigeria Diaspora cause.

According to him, “Russia did not colonise any country in Africa. Therefore, there is a gap in understanding the business opportunities in Nigeria which can be useful to the Russian Enterprise.”

Amb. Shehu said that one of the reasons why the mission came down to Nigeria to understand the risks in the investment and how to manage it.

He also expressed satisfaction with the commitment of NIDO Russia to National development, saying “Nigeria community in Russia and NIDO are very important to both local and foreign policies”.

Uwem-Edimo Sampson, the Chairman, NIDO Russia, said he organised the mission, comprising of 19 companies coming together to sign an agreement to invest in Nigeria.

He reiterated the need for Nigeria to strategise and create means to channel the skills and knowledge of the Diaspora to investments.

Ivan Klevtsov, the CEO Metalwork, speaking on behalf of the Mission said, “we are here to search for demand on Nigerian market, make a strategy and present the market to all our partners”.
