Rotary Club Pledges Commitment to Improving Healthcare in Abuja

The Rotary Club of Asokoro has promised to deepen its activities towards improving the healthcare of communities in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The club has planned to sponsor free  cataract surgeries and reduce maternal mortality, which is part of the over 50 projects it earmarked for the next one year.

The information was disclosed by the  Club President, Dr Adesuwa Agbontaen during his investiture at a colorful ceremony, in Abuja yesterday.

Agbontaen who is the 23rd President of the club, noted that their forum will need the sum of N27 million to execute all the proposed projects.

He assured that the club will raise the money to execute all the projects which according to him, is part of their efforts to give back to society and also render service to humanity.

As part of measures to curb maternal death, the President said; “we will encourage breastfeeding among women, provide them with all the materials they need to go to the hospitals to give birth and foot their hospital bills.”

He also added that the club will remain relentless in its efforts to intervene in the education sector as they are currently building blocks of classrooms across many schools.

“We have about 50 proposed projects in our book that we want to execute in the next one year but we may exceed that which has been the tradition for the past years,” he added.

While rolling out achievements of the club in the last year, the outgoing President of the club, Ms Ebele Israel-Ezezue said that about 46 projects were executed under her leadership in the last 12 months.

The projects included planting of 4,200 flowers as  part of a campaign against polio, providing scholarships to 50 students and free hepatitis screening for 104 persons just to mention but few.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the ceremony, who is the MD/CEO of Zenith Care International Limited, Mr Adelana Olamilekan advised all individuals and other  corporate organisations to cultivate the attitude of giving back to the society, whenever the need arises.

According to him, this will help greatly in improving the lives of the less privileged members of the society thereby leading to overall national development.
