Tinubu Boosts Naval Capacity, Commissions 3 Warships and 2 Helicopters

Tinubu Boosts Naval Capacity, Commissions 3 Warships and 2 Helicopters

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned 3 warships and 2 helicopters by the Nigerian Navy in Naval Dockyard Limited (NDL), Lagos.

The President, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, also flagged off a Regional Maritime Exercise (REMEX) and declared the NN International Maritime Conference (IMC) 2024 open. All three events were held to commemorate the Nigerian Navy’s 68th anniversary.

The warships and helicopters commissioned are NNS OCHUZOR – 35m Hydrographic Survey Vessel; NNS CHALAWA – 32m Seaward Defence Boat (SDB); NNS ZUR 32m (Seaward Defence Boat); Helo NN 412 and Helo NN 414

The Regional Maritime Exercise (REMEX), tagged “ABO-OKUN” witnessed the participation of navies from Brazil, Cameroon, China, and 11 Nigerian Navy ships with 2 helicopters

The International Maritime Conference (IMC) 2024 with the theme: “Promoting the Blue Economy in Africa through International Cooperation on Maritime Security” was attended by participating countries from South Korea, France, China, UK, Spain, Russia, Ghana, Cameroon, Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, and Benin.

The President commended the Nigerian Navy and the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, for creating a safe and secure maritime environment. He referred to the Nigerian Navy as the “lifeguards of Nigeria’s Maritime Environment” and applauded Vice Admiral Ogalla’s anti-crude oil theft operations, which have led to increased oil production for Nigeria.
