Edo Police Rescue 6 Kidnap Victims, Lose Vigilante in Gun Duel
The Edo State Police Command has rescued six kidnapped victims during separate operations across the state, though the efforts tragically resulted in the death of a civilian volunteer.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu.
Yamu explained that the victims were rescued at different locations and on different days through coordinated operations involving police operatives, vigilantes, and local hunters.
“On April 20, 2025, operatives from the Igarra Area Command, Igueben Divisional Police Headquarters, Operation Rescue Teams, in collaboration with vigilantes and hunters, successfully rescued six kidnapped victims during a daring operation,” the statement said.

He, however, noted that a vigilante member, identified as Ijeh Moses, died from gunshot injuries sustained during a shootout with the kidnappers. One of the rescued victims also sustained injuries and is currently responding to treatment.
Yamu further disclosed that some of the kidnappers are believed to have fled with gunshot wounds, as bloodstains were found along their escape routes. Two of the victims were abducted on April 19, 2025, around 6:30 p.m. along the Udoneria-Ewatto Road, while four others were kidnapped on April 20, along a road leading to Udoeguare Community.
He added that another victim, kidnapped along Ugbekpe-Agenebode Road on April 19, was rescued on April 21, 2025, following a joint operation by operatives of the Agenebode Divisional Police Headquarters, Operation Rescue Teams, and local vigilantes.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other criminal activities across the state.
