IG Appoints New National Coordinator for Anti-Cultism Campaign

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has approved the appointment of Superintendent of Police Orvenonne Ikwen as the new National Coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), a flagship non-kinetic initiative of the Nigeria Police Force aimed at tackling cultism and related social ills.

The appointment reflects the IGP’s broader agenda of strengthening preventive policing, enhancing community engagement, and promoting a people-friendly policing model rooted in intelligence, technology, and respect for the rule of law.

SP Ikwen, an accomplished police officer and security-development practitioner, brings extensive experience and academic expertise to the role. She holds a PhD in Computer Science with a specialisation in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science from the University of Calabar, and has made notable contributions to technology-driven policing, police transformation programmes, and behavioural change communication.

A member of the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria (ISMN) and the Institute of Conflict Management & Negotiation Analyst (ICMNA), she has also played a significant role in research, inter-agency collaborations, and public relations within the Force.

As the new National Coordinator, SP Ikwen is expected to expand POCACOV’s reach across schools, tertiary institutions, communities, and youth groups. Her mandate includes addressing pressing social challenges such as cultism, drug abuse, cyber vulnerabilities, misinformation, gender-based violence, and other vices through preventive and community-centred strategies.

The IGP charged her to deploy innovative approaches to crime prevention and deepen collaboration with relevant stakeholders, civil society organisations, community leaders, educational institutions, and youth platforms that have supported the campaign since inception.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, anipr, mipra, announced the appointment in a statement issued from Force Headquarters, Abuja, on 22nd November 2025.
